Featured Works: "Girl in Green Coat"
Framed, graphite and watercolor on watercolor paper, 24 x 18 in.
The initial inspriation for "Girl in Green Coat" was a photograph of a 4-year-old me in an Austrian dress that I've always loved. But it wasn't meant to be a facsimile, and it isn't. To begin with, the dress was too complicated to replicate, and in any case I think would have been distracting. So I borrowed a different dress from another picture. I drew the piece in graphite on watercolor paper. The faded olive green of the dress, which infortunately barely registers in the photograph, was added by wetting the paper and then dripping watercolor and allowing it to streak.
