Featured Work: "Girl Power 1" (SOLD)
Framed. Mixed media on paper, 28 1/2 x 23 1/2 in. (Unframed: 20 x 16 in.)
This is from a photograph but I don't recall the source. Girl Power 1 started as a drawing in graphite, on water color paper. I wasn't satisfied with it, so I did a water color wash, and didn't like that either, so I started going over it with oil paint. In the process, the face transformed into a completely different face from that of the source, but I liked the steeliness in her gaze, so I kept it. I had been doing a series of both drawings and paintings of strong girls. I was challenging myself to create pieces depicting younger faces -- the challenge being to avoid making them look older. And I wanted to do girls... because, what can I tell you: I get pissed off.
